Culture

To understand the culture of the Furley Church you need to know a little bit about what we believe and why.

The United Methodist Church was founded by John Wesley.  John Wesley believed that the "living core of the Christian Faith was revealed in scripture, illuminated by tradition, vivified in personal experience and confirmed by reason."  Contrasting the Methodist movement with other religious societies of his day, he said, "The Methodists alone do not insist on you holding this opinion or that opinion;  but to all opinions which do not strike at the root of Christianity, we think and let think."

The culture of the Furley Church is one of acceptance and love.  We are a welcoming, diverse group of people on a journey together.  We desire to order our everyday lives around Jesus' Great Commandment to love God with everything we are and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40).   We want to see a new culture emerge in our community-a disciple-making culture.

We have a culture of sharing God's love through spirit-filled worship, mission and ministry:  "So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us" (1 Thessalonians 2:8, ESV).  A life filled with the love of Jesus.

Everyone is welcome at the Furley Church!

Come.  Let's Journey Together.  Living Life.  Loving Jesus.
